NAME DESCRIPTION
Armor Proficiency (Heavy) When a character wears a type of armor with which the character is proficient, the armor check penalty applies only to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble checks.
Armor Proficiency (Light) When a character wears a type of armor with which the character is proficient, the armor check penalty applies only to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble checks.
Armor Proficiency (Medium) When a character wears a type of armor with which the character is proficient, the armor check penalty applies only to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble checks.
Blind-Fight In melee, every time a character misses because of concealment, the character can reroll the miss chance percentile roll one time to see if the character actually hit.

Description
Jarek is the son of Delya, a wealthy merchant’s daughter & Yraen, an Elven Mercenary Captain. This was not a match that the merchant Monalik approved of and in a fit of pique, he cast out his daughter.
The two stayed together, for in truth they loved each other but Yraen’s work took him away for most of the year. Delya’s problem was not the loneliness, though that was there but that she lacked the wisdom to curb her spending. The life she was used to did not go well with the income of a Mercenary Captain.
Very soon she had fallen foul of a local moneylender, who also happened to be the head of the local thieves guild. The promising youngster Jarek was taken into service to help pay the debts that Yraen had no knowledge of.
However, the thief master was a vile man and interest and repayments grew until, alone and distraught, Delya took her own life. Yraen returned to bury his wife where he learned the awful truth from his shamefaced son.
Yraen’s fury knew no bounds and with a handful of companions, he exacted a terrible revenge on the thieves guild, utterly destroying it using Jarek’s information.
The two sold up and Jarek joined Yraen’s company, learning the ways of the warrior and becoming skilled in long sword and bow. However, Yraen’s actions had caused consternation amongst other thieves guilds and though it took a number of years, Yraen finally fell to a poisoned crossbow bolt.
Jarek left the company to work freelance and here kindred his hatred of Wesland. Working for a border baron, his troop came across a village destroyed by a Wesland raiding party. In time-honoured tradition, the baron ordered a revenge attack. The murder and rape haunts Jarek still but he consoles himself with the fact that he was following orders and that the guilt lies firmly with the Weslanders.
When the chance came to travel to new lands and leave his past behind, Jarek jumped at it but not before he had paid a visit to his grandfather, the man he thought was responsible for his mother’s death to exact a lethal justice.
Jarek is a complex man, capable of chivalry and compassion but also of cold ruthlessness if his position is under threat.
Addendum: (detail added after the beginning of the campaign).
Jarek saw Hogun had followed him and I suppose at that point he would have bailed out. So trying to think of a reason for going wasn't easy. So I'll work on this basis. Jarek's father was killed by Karubian assassins. Revenge,not money,is his driving force and though Senadai is unlikely to have been a part of it, he is a thief master and therfore one of them in Jarek's somewhat narrow mind. He rather hopes that assassasins are sent so that he can kill them.Perhaps his fathers
killer is among them! This desire for revenge is 'sometimes'outweighed by remorse at his actions at the Wesland village.He
feels he should be dead and his goading of Beryn is a product of of that remorse: a kind of indirect suicide attempt.What has supprised him is beryns restraint and calmness which has earned his respect and now he is grimly determined to protect Beryn at any price.[This also now applies to Morin but I doubt that either character believes it].Assume that when Jarek gives his word formally,he means it.I have to assume here that Jarek had NOT taken Beryns gold when he went to see Senadai and so, in his eyes at least, had no binding contract.
